The FreeFlow face shield was designed with input from medical professionals and is currently being used in the Providence Alaska Medical Center Emergency Department and by other health care providers. We are receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback and welcome your input as well. Our face shields are designed to be comfortable, sturdy and long-lasting. FreeFloe face shields have large acrylic shields with two height options for attaching the shield to the headgear, providing further flexibility and fit for individual users. All of our designs are open source and currently available to the public for limited non-commercial use.
On April 9, 2020 the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization in response to concerns relating to insufficient supply and availability of face shields for use by health care personnel as personal protective equipment in healthcare settings in accordance with CDC recommendations to cover the front and sides of the face and provide barrier protection during the Covid-19 pandemic. The FreeFloe face shield is being provided under this FDA authorization for use by healthcare providers as personal protective equipment for the duration of the declared emergency (unless such authorization is revoked sooner). See Section 564(b)(1) of the Act, 21 USC 360bbb-3(b)(1). Our face shield has not been FDA approved and we make no claims about the ability or effectiveness of the FreeFloe face shield, or any face shield, to protect users against or to reduce transmission of any virus or infection, including COVID-19.
